GC Services – We Believe That It Is Better to Fight Your Fines and Charges

If you received a collection letter from GC Services demanding payment in the form of a huge fine for a traffic ticket, we can help.

Our law firm specializes in helping people just like you in getting driver’s licenses reinstated without paying a dime to GC Services. However, the only way we can help is if you have never been before a judge pertaining to your ticket.

We provide alternatives to paying fines charged by GC Services for tickets issued in Los Angeles County. Over the course of time, we have helped a large number of people get their license back and without paying fees to GC Services.

Handling a Demand Letter from GC Services

As long as you have not yet gone before a judge, it is often better for you to request a court date to see a judge in an effort to either correct or fight the violation and have your fine reduced as opposed to paying the amount demanded by GC Services. Often, this is the best option.

Keep in mind that because the Los Angeles County Superior Court no longer sells DMV Abstracts, effective April 6, 2015, getting your driver’s license back may be more difficult and costly. Because of this, you have choices: either pay the huge fine to GC Services to clear up a hold on your driver’s license or schedule a new court date a few months down the road to see a judge and fight the charges, have the license hold cleared, or get your fine lowered.

If you were issued a ticket in Los Angeles County and have never seen a judge, call us. This gives us the opportunity to discuss different options with you. Instead of paying GC Services, we will provide you with viable alternatives.

What Is GC Services?

GC Services Limited Partnership is a private collection agency located in North America. GC Services is used by the Los Angeles County Superior Court to collect money from delinquent (unpaid) traffic tickets. GC Services receives cases under the following situations:

  • Traffic ticket was not paid on the due date shown on the ticket.
  • Date of court appearance was missed.
  • After appearing before a judge, the fine was not paid or community service not performed by the due date.

How to Pay GC Services

If you have a Matter Set for Compliance (see below) or you have no option but to pay the fine demanded by GC Services, we recommend that you make a payment in person at the GC Services Court Window rather than paying over the phone.

  • Pay in Person – See GC Services Court Window below
  • Pay Online – Follow this link: www.courtpay.gcserv.com
  • Pay by Phone – Call one of GC Services’ call center numbers listed at www.gcserv.com

GC Services Court Window

When paying GC Services, it is recommended that you pay in person at the GC Services Court Window rather than pay over the phone. This will optimize your chances of clearing up your driver’s license issue faster. Every Los Angeles Traffic Court has a GC Services window. Instead of waiting in line for the traffic ticket clerk, who cannot help with collections for GC Services fines, you must wait in line at the GC Services window.

  • Failure to Appear (FTA) – If you have a Failure to Appear (FTA), request a court date when at the GC Services window so that you can see a judge, unless you have appeared before a judge prior.
  • Failure to Pay (FTP) – For a Failure to Pay (FTP) or a Matter Set for Compliance, you would have already seen a judge. Because of that, the court will not permit you to get another court date to see a judge. If your license has been suspended because of a Failure to Pay, in our opinion, your only recourse is to pay the fine to get your license returned.

We Recommend That You Get a Guarantee from GC Services Recommendation – If you are paying GC Services to get your license Hold cleared up, be aware that it can take time for this to occur. When paying GC Services, make sure that you get a guarantee that the DMV Hold on your license will be cleared up. This is important since you do not want to make a payment to GC Services only to find out the Hold has not been handled.

Suspended License

If you do not pay your traffic ticket on time or you fail to appear in court, the court will request the DMV to suspend your driver’s license and charge a significant fee. In addition, your case will be referred to GC Services collection agency. It is in your best interest to avoid paying the fine to GC Services, since it is significant.

Recommendation – If you are paying GC Services to get your license Hold cleared up, be aware that it can take time for this to occur. When paying GC Services, make sure that you get a guarantee that the DMV Hold on your license will be cleared up. This is important since you do not want to make a payment to GC Services only to find out the Hold has not been handled.

Keep Violations Off Your DMV Driver’s License Record

Unfortunately, many people choose to contact GC Services and pay the fine for a traffic ticket. The concerns that we have with this approach are:

  • You essentially pled guilty.
  • You probably spent more money than necessary.
  • You now have violations on your DMV license record, which could result in a point being added to your license and your insurance rate going up if the offense is a moving violation.

If you have not seen a judge, there is another approach:

  • Request a court date through GC Services to see a judge in a court of law so that you can fight the charges and get the fine reduced.
  • Keep the violations, including moving violations, off your DMV driver’s license record.

Getting Your License Back Prior to April 6, 2016, you could buy a DMV Abstract for clearing up a license quickly, if you did not have two Failures to Appear (FTAs). Today, the Los Angeles Superior Court no longer sells DMV Abstracts. Because of this, clearing up your license can be more difficult and costly. This creates the situation of paying fines to GC Services to clear up the Hold on your license or schedule a new court date for months down the road, at which time you will go before a judge to fight the charges, get fines lowered, and have the Hold removed. We Can Do This on Your Behalf!

Handling Your Notice from GC Services for a Traffic Fine

If your traffic ticket is not resolved in a timely manner, the court will refer it to GC Services for collection. Once this happens, the court will not schedule court appearances, process correspondence relating to the ticket, or accept payments.

If you received notification from GC Services and want to schedule a new court date, you must go through GC Services as opposed to the Traffic Clerk’s Office at the courthouse. For alternative solutions, contact us so that we can help, as long as you have not yet appeared before a judge.

Is It Better to Fight in Court?

Once your case is referred to GC Services for collection, you will face additional fees. After being charged with a Failure to Appear (FTA), the government wants to make as much money off you as possible. For that reason, it may be in your best interest to go to court to have fines reduced and to fight charges as opposed to just paying the GC Services fees.

Many times, people receive traffic tickets for things that are correctable, including no proof of insurance (Vehicle Code 16028) when in fact they did have insurance coverage, no front plates or license plates (Vehicle Code 5200), expired registration (Vehicle Code 4000), or tinted windows (VC 26708) and 26708.5, if the issue turned into a Failure to Appear (FTA). For these violations, a simple $25 would have resolved the problem. With GC Services involved, the fee is outrageous. If GC Services is trying to charge you more than $1,000 and one of the charges has to do with no proof of insurance (Vehicle Code 16028), but you did have valid insurance coverage just no proof in the vehicle, please call us immediately so that we can help you fight the fines and get the charges reduced or dropped.

Failing to handle a traffic ticket in a timely matter will result in you being charged an offense of Failure to Appear (FTA) Vehicle Code (VC) 40508. While a misdemeanor, this allows the government to charge you a significant amount of money for not taking care of the ticket quickly. In this case, it is much better to go to court, where you can try to do something about it.

Do Not Expect a Reminder from the Court

Unfortunately, many people fail to show up for court because they expected some kind of notification or courtesy notice from the court. However, this is not something the court does. Instead, when you sign a traffic ticket issued by a police officer, you are providing a written promise to appear in court on the date listed on the ticket.

If you do not show up in court, you will be charged with a Failure to Appear (FTA). In addition, the DMV will probably suspend your driver’s license for six months, followed by GC Services taking control and charging a huge fine.

Check the Status of Your Ticket with the GC Services Using the Court Website

If your ticket is with GC Services, you want to check the status by visiting the Los Angeles Superior Court website. While on the website, enter your driver’s license and date of birth in the “Search by Driver’s License” field. The status of all traffic tickets in Los Angeles County will appear. What the Status of Your Ticket Means Vehicle Code (VC) 40509.6 Holes or Bench Warrant/Arrest Warrant If the status of your traffic ticket appears as a VC 40509.5 Hold, Bench Warrant, or Arrest Warrant, call us immediately.

We will fight the traffic ticket on your behalf, as well as the huge fines demanded by GC Services. In some instances, we can also clear up the suspension on your driver’s license in just one to two days and without you ever attending court. We can also help with both bench and arrest warrants. Matter Set for Compliance If the status on your traffic ticket appears as “Matter Set for Compliance,” unfortunately, we will not be able to assist.

For a Matter Set for Compliance, the only way to get out of it is to go to court and pay the fine being charged by GC Services. In this case, you cannot see a judge again since you have already seen the judge once but failed to pay the fine or complete community service by the due date. Because of this, you face a Failure to Pay (FTP), which comes with an enormous fine. A Matter Set for Compliance is a very serious matter. Always make sure that you get a guarantee from GC Services (see below) to confirm that someone cleared up the DMV Hold on your driver’s license.
